How to find a great barbershop in Bellflower

Anyone can post on Instagram. Here's what actually matters when picking a new barbershop.

If you've just moved to Bellflower, or your old barber moved away, finding someone new is stressful. Here's our honest, insider guide to picking a shop.

1. Look at the barber's Instagram, not the shop's

Shop Instagram pages show the best work from the whole team. A single barber's Instagram tells you what they consistently do. Find the barber whose feed has three or four photos of the cut you actually want. That's your guy.

2. Check how the barbers hold a clipper

This sounds strange but it's real. When you walk in, glance at what's happening in the chair. A barber who looks relaxed, confident, and talking to their client is usually dialed in. A barber who looks tense or is rushing through — that's not where you want to sit.

3. Prices tell you something, but not everything

A $15 cut is almost always too cheap. A $100 cut had better be phenomenal. The $30-$50 range is where most quality shops live. That's where you're paying for skill and consistency without paying for ego.

4. Cleanliness isn't optional

Clean capes. Clean tools. Clean floors. Sanitation jars with actual Barbicide in them. If the shop looks dusty, walk out.

5. Booking should be easy

If the only way to book is a voicemail to a shared shop phone, you're going to have a bad time. Shops with online booking respect your time. (That's why we built our own booking site — calling for a cut is a 2001 problem.)

6. Read the reviews, but read *between the reviews*

5 stars with 300 reviews is good. 5 stars with 12 reviews could just be friends. Look for reviews that describe specifics — the cut, the conversation, the wait time. Generic "great cut!" reviews are often planted.

7. Try a cheap service first

Don't book a full cut + beard + hot shave on your first visit. Get a line-up or a beard trim — a $20, 15-minute test. If they nail that, come back for the big one.

8. Ask about specialties

Every barber has a thing. Ask the front desk: "Who's best at [skin fades / scissor work / beard sculpting / kids' cuts]?" A shop that knows their team and sends you to the right person cares about you getting the right cut. One that just assigns whoever is free doesn't.
